Picture 1 of 13
Produced sometime between 1892 and 1902, this painting shows a young girl with a label hanging from her heck. In Greek, this tells us that her name is Rose and she is for sale for 800 monedas. The image is zoomed in on the girl and we see the world from her view as she is surrounded by the feet of her would be owners. She has no control of her fate and looks down in sadness and futility.
